DJs: Serato Video Is Here

Based on the popular Video-SL plug-in, Serato Video now gives ITCH DJs video mixing tools that Serato Scratch Live DJs have enjoyed for years, with the use of supported ITCH controllers. Scratch Live DJs can use the same tools with their choice of turntable or CDJ control.
With a reworked architecture, Serato DJs can experience an even smoother workflow and greater flexibility when using effects and transitions to amplify video mixes, at home, in the club or on-stage.
Serato Video is a free update for all current owners of Video-SL.
What does it do?
  • Add video clips to your Scratch Live or ITCH performance.
  • View loaded clips and output from your computer.
  • Manipulate playback with Serato control records, CDs or with your ITCH controller of choice.
  • Use built in transitions and effects including text and image effects.
  • Enrich your set with audio responsive effects, including bass zoom and splits, that are controlled by analyzing the music signal.
  • Preview and manage video files in both the ITCH and Scratch Live offline players.
  • Use Video Instant Doubles to play the same video and effects on a second deck.
  • Store effects within each video file for instant recall.
  • Setup different output configurations (Output Only, L/R prefader or all 3 outputs) for greater flexibility when video mixing externally.
  • Utilize 3rd party controllers with Serato Video’s MIDI control in Scratch Live.
Note: Windows computers using Intel graphics cards are not currently supported by Serato Video

Alesis iO Mix Turns Your iPad Into A Full Featured 4-Track Mixer

Alesis continues its obsession with slotting iPads into musical hardware with the iO Mix, a four-channel mixer that funnels audio into the Apple tablet via pro-style XLR-1/4″ sockets. Core Audio support means it’s compatible with most iPad audio apps, including Apple’s own GarageBand, while a video output means it can be used to play back presentations and even as a karaoke hub.
Ports include four XLR-1/4″ inputs with optional 48V phantom power for studio condenser microphones – while channel one is also switchable to guitar-direct input – as well as two 1/4″ TRS balanced outputs, a 1/4″ TRS stereo headphone socket, and an RCA composite video output. The iPad itself slides into a dock section and is locked in place for stability; it’s recharged by the same power supply that’s keeping the iO Mix running.

Controls consist of individual trim, channel gain, pan, and low & high EQ for each input channel, separate volume controls for the outputs, a direct monitor option for cutting out latency while recording, and a switchable limiter. Even if you’re not recording, the guitar input option means you can use the iPad as a virtual effects pedal.
Alesis also offers an adapter for mounting the iO Mix on a mic stand. No word on pricing or availability at this stage.Source: http://www.slashgear.com/alesis-io-mix-squirts-four-tracks-into-your-new-ipad-27220184/

EMI Sues Over Def Jam Rapstar Video Game

Remember Def Jam Rapstar? The SingStar for...rap? It had promise, but ultimately fizzled on the vine and died without making much of a splash. Now, making things worse, a record company is trying to squeeze the game's creators for millions.
EMI is suing both 4mm Games and Terminal Reality, claiming that they used songs in the game they weren't entitled to. Sounds clear-cut, but it's actually far from it: while Rapstar obviously got clearance to use songs from labels like Def Jam, EMI says it owned small percentages of other tracks nominally owned by other labels. Examples include DJ Khaled's "I'm So Hood," which EMI claims 10 percent ownership, MIMS' "This Is Why I'm Hot," a song with 16 writers which EMI claims 16 percent ownership, and Lil Wayne's "Got Money," which EMI claims 30 percent ownership. In total, EMI claim 54 tracks infringe on their rights, and they're after over $8 million in total damages.

Man Offers Soulja Boy $25,000 To Stop Rapping For Good

A Glendale California man is so irritated with the music Soulja Boy makes, that he is pledging $25,000 for the Atlanta rapper to stay away from the booth for good. According to reports, the man, Kyle Burgens, described as a financial adviser for an investment firm in Los Angeles says the ‘Crank Dat’ rapper is a detriment to the community and has single-handedly set hip hop back 20 years.

He’s so serious he’s shown media outlets a legally binding contract and a written check in Soulja Boy’s name (we assume his government name). Soulja Boy, who’s no stranger to controversy and criticism, was unavailable for comment. In reaction to the news, fans have to wonder if Soulja Boy is worth $25,000 to retire, how much would Lil B go for?
